Did I… miss something?? I’ve heard this book absolutely raved about on this sub, and after finally reading it for myself I am very disappointed. I’m not going to go into details, but overall I found it very long-winded, and I thought the revenge that Monte Cristo enacted wasn’t as satisfying as it could’ve been. And the end with him becoming romantically connected to Haydee? That was disgusting tbh. If he was going to find love again, it should’ve been with somebody his equal, not a child he literally bought and referred to as a slave

Nope
Yeah, I wasn’t that impressed by it either. I do agree that it was a bit too long. I don’t usually say this about books, because I love long books, but this one could have been like 200 pages shorter. The Haydee thing is quite disturbing. The Count is about 40 years old I think by the end of the book and Haydee was around 20. While she’s not a child, what bothered me was that until this point he saw her as his daughter and then all of a sudden he has romantic feelings for her. Personally, I wouldn’t have liked for him to get back with Mercedes; I would have liked it more if he ended up alone but I guess that kind of defeats the point of the novel that there can still be hope even after everything Dantes went through.
>the revenge wasn’t satisfying
The point. That’s it right there.
