This is an interesting point for me, because it usually happens the other way around. That is, many people have books that they liked before the ending. But how many books are there that were inherently average, but the ending made them much better.
For example, "I am Legend." This is a very good written novel about the apocalypse, where the main character wants to create a cure for a virus that turns people into vampires. But to be honest, for the most part this is the most ordinary novel about the apocalypse, which would have been lost among the same novels if not for the ending.
The hero realizes that vampires are actually a new species in evolution, and the a monster it's he and undead vampires, for intelligent vampires he was a monster, a maniac who killed them and when he dies he will become a legend for them
This ending made the book a classic, because it is so shocking, it changes everything so much that people, for the most part, only remember it.
