I’ve read this book twice in my life and absolutely enjoyed it. Eva was incredibly adorable. However, I did have some issues with the book. Uncle Tom’s character comes across as overly stereotypical and religious. I understand that the author used religion to evoke sympathy from readers, but it felt a bit contrived and Uncle Tom became a meme at the time of publication!
Also, the whole concept of Liberia seemed misplaced. Why not cultivate a field of love, joy, and understanding right in the grief-stricken soil of America?
I see why no one wants to make a film out of Uncle Tom's Cabin nowadays.

we really need critical thinking skills taught again. are you fucking kidding????
I have not read this one, but in similar vein Mammy’s character from GWTW is also pretty controversial in the current times (correctly so). But this could also be because the perspective while writing these books were very different for Margaret Mitchell and Harriet B Stowe.
