I like character driven novels / memoirs that focus on a complicated relationship. I especially love sister-sister and mother-daughter books, but I’m also open to other types of (non-romantic) relationships. A few I’ve enjoyed:
They Called Us Exceptional – Prachi Gupta
Everything Here is Beautiful – Mira T. Lee
Mom & Me & Mom – Maya Angelou
Crying in H Mart – Zauner, Michelle
The Leavers – Lisa Ko
Silver Sparrow – Tayari Jones
Red at the Bone – Jacqueline Woodson

Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
“Hello Beautiful” by Ann Napolitano and “Tom Lake” by Ann Patchett.
Private Papers by Margaret Foster
Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi is about a very complex mother-daughter relationship. It’s gripping reading. Highly recommend.
