I’ve recently become a fan of horror and some dark stuff but I’ve always loved comedy. Any suggestions for a book that combines the two amazingly? Preferably in a more fictional setting.

I’d suggest looking into Chuck Palahniuk, his earlier work like Invisible Monsters, Survivor, Choke, all have a lot of great humor, albeit that’s certainly not the dominant factor of his books. He reminds me a lot of if Kurt Vonnegut wrote in more grotesque themes, the prose is very similar, like listening to a friend tell a story.

Also in that same vein, Ray Bradbury has a unique sort of “horror” to his stories. They are sprawling and epic at times and are the sort of stories that make you feel immensely small, stories about the terror and beauty of our immense universe, some humor but more of an objective austere view of sci-fi futures.

I guess it’s really about what is horrifying to you. I mean some of the themes and storylines in Infinite Jest are straight from a nightmare scenario and that book is also fucking hilarious at times. But it’s a challenging read and will test your comprehension on every page.

Hope you enjoy some of these suggestions. Read on!
