So recently I read The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff and really liked "human in nature" aspect of the story. I am microbiologist and enjoy reading nonfiction about plants and animals but never thought to explore similar themes in fiction. I liked how the wilderness felt not just like a setting, but like an entity in the book, sometimes serene, sometimes frightening, but ever present.
So, now I want to read something similar. Googling didn't yield many recomendations that seem to be what I want, so maybe this sub will help me with that?
On the other hand, I wouldn't want to read books where nature is destroyed or only exploited for resources.

I really like Small Game by Blair Braverman. It starts as a story about a survival reality show and turns into real survival in the wilderness. She’s an expert on the subject as well. This is her first novel and I really hope she writes more.
