I had a baby last year, so my reading time went down significantly for a long awhile, but I am starting to have a *little* more time to read now. I truly have no idea what to read and I end up scrolling through this sub endlessly. I also have a bad habit of looking up books on goodreads, then seeing a negative comment or two and letting that sway me away.

I am open to pretty much any genre. I will say I like a book that can get me hooked quickly. Some of my favorite books are:

    Beartown series

    11/22/63

    Harry Potter series

    Scythe series

    The Host

These are just some off the top of my head. Hit me with your best suggestions please!

It’s a *very* different take on the same idea of parasite and host, but you may like **Leech by Hiron Ennes**. I found this book enthralling and could hardly put it down until I finished.

Besides The Host, Harry Potter is the only other book on your list I’m familiar with, so here’s some wild guesses of books you may like:

      * The Abhorsen series by Garth Nix, starting with **Sabriel**. Fantasy with a unique magic system. The main character has a special role to play based on her heritage.

      * **Kindred** by Octavia E. Butler. I got hooked more or less within the first few pages. It’s not very similar to the other recommendations, though.

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
      – a fix-up novel about humanity’s interactions with a romanticized Mars

House Of Suns by Alistair Reynolds
      – perhaps the most epic and weird space-opera I’ve read.

Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck
      – a simple yet hard hitting novel of two friends, one being retarded yet crazy strong, the other very smart with average strength, trying to get by in the Great Depression. One of my favourite novels.

You could try the Mode Series, its about a young girl >!that has turned to self harm because of a secret traumatic event. She discovers there is more to the universe than the laws of science she learned in school and sets off on a magic quest in a desperate attempt to escape her depression.!<

There are plenty of negative reviews of the series, mostly centered around the idea that grown men shouldn’t write about young women.
