Holy shit this is a slog. I like the book, I really do, and I’ve gotten immersed and read 50 pages in a sitting before. But…fuck. This book is ridiculously long, so slow with the pacing, and the motivation to read it is monumentally hard to find. Granted I’ve been extremely busy, between a new job, an extremely punishing class to get a certification, and the mental malaise/dopamine fuckery happening with me having gotten out of a less than awesome relationship right before starting this book, every time I want to read (when I do, which is less often until this class is done), I never have the motivation to pick up this 1300 page behoymoth. I’ve read multiple other books in the time between starting it and now.

Granted I don’t mind that..? It makes the whole thing feel more like a giant epic adventure to me, and might be the way that I actually survive super long novels (reading portions, breaking off to read shorter novels on my TBR, returning). Kinda “self-serializing” it. I read Count of Monte Cristo this way over the course of like 6+ months and loved it and was considering doing the same thing with Don Quixote once I finish Shogun.

Anyone else have a long long book that they don’t dislike but just look at and go…blah?
