I’m usually a fantasy and/or romance reader but I’m so tired of them recently all being basic or copies of SJM. I recently read the two ninth house books and if we were villains and really enjoyed them.

    1. The Ninth House books (two of three have been published) by Leigh Bardugo are quite good. A girl from Los Angeles is given a scholarship to Yale for unclear reasons (at first). There, she joins House Lethe, which is one of nine “houses” at Yale, each specializing in some different sort of magic. Barbugo is quite a good writer, but she got a little too cute with the structure of this one. Note to writers: stories start at the beginning and end at the end because that’s best way to do it.

A Deadly Education has been received very positively, though I haven’t read it.

I have The Secret History on my list as well, and it’s one of the OGs of dark academia.
