Hallo!
I am looking for something different to what I normally read so I am not familiar at all with any books in this category. But anyways, I’ve been binging on things like a Place to call Home, Miss Fisher, and RFDS lately so I am looking for something more romance based than the shows mentioned.
However I also want ANGST, lots of it – the kind of longing that goes with forbidden love, or whatever. Enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, any of that stuff.
The other type of book I’m after (embarrassingly comes from a need to sate my Pastor Ted/Ashley Marin PLL feels) – is something (ideally contemporary) with a pair of middle aged folks, no huge age gaps, no youngsters. The male is a cinnamon roll, or a totally nice guy, divorced perhaps. Female has a troubled past – divorced maybe, with a teenage daughter and a shit ex. Or had trouble with the law etc etc.
So basically that’s my huge pair of asks.
Summing up –
First – Australian/Outback
M/F (bonus for medical based drama)
no particular era but no earlier than 1920s and really would prefer 1950-now.
no secret pregnancy trope but anything else pretty much goes.
Angst.
Third person POV preferred.
Second – American ideally
M/F
Middle aged (think parents on a teen drama type age)
Contemporary preferred
Nice guy/Lonely and downtrodden woman
Again, lots of angst.
Steam can be either 5\* or non existent.

First one…**The Thorn Birds, by Colleen McCulloch** is a classic that ticks most of your boxes.
