Stop me if you’ve heard this one.
7 year old daughter, only child, middle class but not super affluent parents, lives in a nice area without visible poverty nearby.
Naturally seems to be developing an entitled attitude and (I won’t use this word with her) can seem bratty at times.
I refuse to pull the “there are starving kids in Africa so you’re gonna finish your damn plate,” or shame her for some level of introversion, and I absolutely want her to understand that stubbornness can be a huge asset in not being manipulated by people who would take advantage of her.
Buuuuuuuut we need some good books to teach lessons about maybe give-and-take in friendships, valuing other people’s feelings, understanding her privilege, not feeling entitled to everything just because her life has been pretty comfortable.
Non-religious books please. I want her to learn to value people for their own sake, and not in the context of divine reward of punishment.

The Little Gymnast by Sheila Haigh. It is old, but great for that age and understanding.
The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes
