I recently read through all of Emily Henry's novels. I was looking for a beach read and ended up really loving how she delved into her characters lives and backgrounds. I think I especially like how quirky and flawed her characters are. They feel like real people with real surprises.
In the past I've read a lot of fantasy, Sci Fi and classics. Everything I read was removed from my current reality. But lately I've come to enjoy reading something that felt like the kind of day to day issues that we all deal with.
I don't like most romance novels, with the exception of Jane Austen. It doesn't need to be a romance at all. I want something with growth and introspection that is enjoyable to read and not the Pulitzer equivalent of Oscar bait.
