Wow, I really don't know where to start. The Silent Parade by Keigo Higashino is an excellently written novel displaying not only thrill as a murder mystery, but also the psychological impacts that affect the people surrounding it with every passing action. It has some great commentary and criticism regarding some crucial aspects which I'll be explaining further on. Before anything, I would like to commend the translator for his beautiful ability in translating that captures the essence of the primary themes in the novel aligning with the original Japanese work by the author. It's not just a simple "who done it" murder mystery. No, it's very very far from that. From the beginning of the book, we get the idea and probably know who is the criminal behind all of these, but no evidence whatsoever couldn’t keep him behind the bars as the evidence presented were "circumstantial" and our criminal would deny everything and keep his mouth shut. These phenomenons are very unfair and here comes the second point, the author criticizes the Justice system on how convoluted and complex it is to bring a person to justice. I really liked this commentary and it somewhat resonates with many, I believe. Then we could see in great depths how the victim's family were affected and how they were affected psychologically, how everything is so much heart-wrenching and unworldly tormenting for them. We could view their lives in greater depth and could see how they were descending into grief with each passing moment. Along with that, we could see how a person’s sense of humanity and justice could be twisted by such events and how they're driven to achieve the outcome they deem as the best. We could also get an insightful view on how obsession over something is a poison that with every passing moment, spreads out within your soul and drives you to commit inhumane ruthless acts as you dwell away from your sense of righteousness and towards insanity and wrath. This story also signifies the bond between family members and close friends and shows what the true essence of such connections could turn out to be alongside how heartless and disgusting people can turn out to be truly. A really insightful novel that gives perspective on several different themes and meanings while being really enjoyable and thrilling. I for one, really had a great time with this book, I genuinely clicked with the book and loved it. Would be looking into more works by Keigo Higashino as this was my first novel by him.
