Looking for a “romance” where the couple DOESN’T work out
This might be a weird request, but I was wondering if anyone had book suggestions where people tried to / did get together, but they couldn't make things work out?

The Protector of the Small series by Tamora Pierce has this! The romance is in the third book but they part as friends, and she ends the series single. Zero spice. It’s a YA knight fantasy with light magic.

Deposing Nathan and Tonight We Rule the World, both by Zack Smedley. They both aren’t necessarily solely romance, but they have romance elements. I read them both back-to-back and Zack Smedley instantly became a fav YA author for me.
