Ideally something like The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, but for drug cartels/organised crime, with strong emphasis on relaying the story and reality of the situation to the reader whilist staying impartial. Autobiographies would work as well as long as the subject matter is the main point.

Not cartel but if you like this vibe you might like “Will They Ever Forgive us?” By Michael Moore. It’s letter to Michael from Iraq war soldiers and veterans. I definitely cried while reading it. I definitely recommend watching 9/11 Fahrenheit before reading it. These people felt like hostages that’s probably why I get the same vibe.
