I'm a biochemist who is a fan of both hard magic systems and hard sci-fi. I love worlds that treat magic as a science, and I'm looking for something that deals with the biology of magic.
A Nautural History of Dragons is on my list for something like this, but I'd love for something that deals with the genetics and physics of magic. Some concepts that I love here would be the ecology and evolution in Children of Time or of Roshar from The Stormlight Archives (lots of great points in this world, like Lift's magical metabolism), the midi-chlorians of Star Wars and the idea of magical mitochondria (A Wind in the Door), Dune's human breeding by the Bene Geserit, the energy equivalency in Eragon, and so on.
