I'm going on summer holiday in a week and I'm thinking about reading the Count of Monte Cristo or East of Eden. English is not my native language, but I read it pretty well. which of the 2 would you recommend? I would say I'm a bit further than a beginner reader and really wanting to get into the classics, right now I'm reading Frankenstein and a week ago I read the color purple. All recommendations are appreciated!

Monte Cristo might be my all time favorite book, so I definitely recommend that, although I read East of Eden a month ago myself and it was also great. I still would say Monte Cristo is better though! 🙂
I’d say go for Monte Cristo first. It’s the bigger book so should last you for the duration of your holiday. It’s also straightforward, and at times, fast paced adventure story. Very easy to read and follow: a page turner. East of Eden isn’t exactly a difficult read, but from the two, Monte Cristo is much lighter on allegory and allusion etc.
