I love the way Ruskin describes the growth of a tree in Volume 5 of Modern Painters and was wondering if anything more contemporary achieved this level of detailed, lyrical description that paid close attention to the natural phenomenon being described?
I’m aware that there are great nature writers — McFarlane, Helen MacDonald, Abbey, McPhee — but i’m not currently looking simply for “great” nature writing; i’m specifically wanting to know whether there’s any great nature writing that follows a similar approach to Ruskin’s descriptive prose?
Thanks!
