I’d like to read alternate US histories unrelated to any particular wars, but rather organizational roads not taken. Like no corporate personhood, commonwealths instead of states, eternal vigilance against political parties, a different Constitution (or survival of the Articles) etc. Any ideas?

These might not necessarily lend themselves to stories so if they're thought exercises or illustrations in works of nonfiction, I'd be just as happy.
