hi fellow readers! i'm slowing down a bit with my reading (currently working thru all of the shakespeare i own and while it's great, my brain is almost ready for something a little less dense) and i'm looking for something to be a great palate cleanser as my next read.
i've been a long-time lover of fanfiction, and as a result, i feel like something that has that same vibe as a damn good fanfic would be a perfect choice, but i don't want it to be fanfic, y'know? i want a new book that hits similar beats to my favorite characters in other media.
i'm NOT looking for fanfiction with the serial numbers filed off, to be clear. fanfiction as a medium requires so much prior knowledge before the story starts to establish characters, and filing off the serial numbers is often not enough to make it work as a piece of original fiction.

bonus points for asexual or disability rep, and super bonus points for anything where cats feature heavily. i'm really open to ANYTHING that isn't something super hyped on booktok (as every book i've seen recommended widely on there has been a huge miss for me). so sell me your favorite fun and well-written books that are just a good time!
