I’ve read some pretty intensely “sci-fi” books by authors like Isaac Asimov and Larry Niven, but that’s not really what I’m looking for. I want to enjoy some solid space travel adventures without a lot of complicated lore, science, or an intensely serious tone. I’m not looking for outright comedy, either. I just want something easy, exciting and enjoyable. Bonus points if the main character is a girl! That is definitely not a necessary piece of criteria; I’ve just been reading a lot of books with male main characters lately and would enjoy switching it up.
I’d prefer non-YA, but I’ll take ANY recommendations anyone has :)) even if it doesn’t meet all my criteria because this request does seem pretty specific. Thanks in advance, readers!

The Captain by Will Wight. The MC is not a girl. He’s a wizard who has seen 5 alternative version of his life. He ends up finding a spaceship called the Last Horizon and plans to use to stop the bad guys who killed him in his alternate lives. But first he has to put together a crew. It’s fun. It mixes sci-fi and fantasy. Horizon has a female AI. And the second book will be out this winter. It’s called the engineer
The Expanse series is great and has some wonderful female characters.
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.
