I think he may be one of the best horror novelists I've ever read. This is the third book of his I've read and each one is disgusting, deeply unsettling, kind of beautiful, and horribly sad. Every time I start a new novel of his I think it can't possibly be as good as the last one and each time I'm proven wrong. "Survivor Song" and "The Cabin at the End of the World" are the other two I've read by him and they are both amazing. If you've been continually disappointed by horror novels in the past I cannot recommend him enough. Just had to tell someone!

I’ve been starting to get into horror a little and have been trying to find new authors (to me). This is a terrific recommendation, thanks! Would you recommend one over another to start reading him?

I really enjoy Tremblay – but *a lot* of people hate his more ambiguous style.

      Seems really divisive on r/horrorlit

I’ve read all of Tremblay’s novels and I’m dyinggg to read his upcoming release. He is definitely in my top three favorite writers, not just horror either.

    4. I think Tremblay’s stuff is so good I would recommend it to non ‘horror’ fans; especially this one. He really is working with something well beneath the surface, and his writing is sublime. I can’t wait for the new one.

    5. Have you read Jason Arnopp?

If you dig Tremblay, you may like some of his novels. The Last Days of Jack Sparks is a good place to start and it’s currently on sale for like 2 dollars.

You may also like Luke Smitherd, if you don’t mind a bit of sci-fi in your horror. In the Darkness or Stone Man a good starting point for him.

Sounds interesting, I’ll have to give it a read sometime. I started reading The Necrophiliac by Gabrielle Wittkop; it’s seriously fucked up in the most amazing way. It’s a short read only 91 pages or so. I got about 30 pages left to read. I’d recommend it if you’re into horror.
