I wanted to read a book from Nietzsche and I mentioned it to someone, but their reaction was that he was a lunatic and that I should stay away from any of his books. I must admit that they don't really read much, but it still got me wondering: Should I, and others, read books from Nietzsche?
I am curious about people's overly negative reception of Nietzsche's work. Surely it can't be that bad; it is more likely that ordinary people misunderstand him, rather than his books being dangerous.
What are your thoughts and experiences?

Many of his ideas are legitimately repellent and were taken up to very dangerous ends, but he was an interesting guy who’s probably worth reading. Books aren’t dangerous in themselves.
I don’t know you so I went and read some of your posts.
Yes, you probably should.
