I’ve read Paul O’Grady’s Country Life, which I loved. All about life in his cottage with chickens and ducks and dogs, growing vegetables and watching the seasons go by.

I also have John Seymour’s book on self-sufficiency.

I’m hoping to find something similar. Fiction or non-fiction.

I’ve seen recommendations for The Magic Apple Tree by Susan Hill.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of just lovely calm books that make you want to waft about growing sweet peas and cornflowers, harvesting eggs and apples and making chutney and bread? Thanks!

    1. I’m going to recommend a series of books for children 🙂 Pettson and Findus by Swedish author Sven Nordqvist

“The Egg and I” by Betty MacDonald is one of my favorite books of all time — nonfic and hilarious. Describes the food so well you get hungry reading it.

If you haven’t already read the “Little House” series, another great place to start.
