I'd love some suggestions for more approachable medieval history texts. Here are some areas of interest for me to help guide recommendations:
I've been enjoying the book The Bright Ages by David M. Perry and Matthew Gabriele.
I also have been fascinated by Medieval Baghdad being a multicultural center of interreligious philosophical and scientific study, and would love a good book on this or a similar phenomena.
I'm also really into poetry and the idea of bards in the West and griots in African cultures — the shared concept there of bards/poets as prophetic, artistic, and political figures also key to keeping lore is really neat to me.
Other historical interests!
– agriculture
– monasticism
– Christian mysticism or mystic schools of thought in general
– daily life for common people at various times
– art & music and it's place in society
I realize these are all over the place but feel free to recommend based of any, all, or none of these, the latter in the event that there's a book based on my post that you think I might like! I'll try anything once and usually be into it, so feel free to stuff the comments full of recs!
