I just finished my second reading of this amazing book. (I first read it a few years ago.) If you’ve read it, did you also read other works by Jeff Hobbs? Do they match up?
This is the true story, from many, many hours of interviews and personal experiences, of a young man from the dangerous streets of Newark, who graduated from Yale with a degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, but ultimately couldn’t fulfill that promise and died a violent death.
More striking that the story itself is the quality of the writing. It seems as if Hobbs and his editor raked over every word of the densely detailed 406 pages and curated each one. Highly recommended.
