Currently on a major gothic kick. I absolutely ADORED St. Gibson’s A Dowry of Blood, and enjoyed their follow up An Education in Malice.
While I enjoyed their vampiric aspects immensely, and wouldn’t have any qualms picking up another vampire book if recommended, I’m mainly looking for another novel centering on gothic themes; psychological horror, tension, mysteries and secrets, and deliciously melodramatic/poetic prose. The kind of book that churns your stomach and flames your cheeks when you can’t turn the pages fast enough.
Any 21st century recs? I worked my way through the classics long ago; I particularly love Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, Rebecca, Jane Eyre, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the poetry of Mary Shelley.
