Hey all ππ½ Iβm looking for a specific book that I canβt recall the title of. I only read a little of it, but Iβm hoping that if I describe what I can remember of it one of you may know the book.
The story is about a young woman (living in California, I think) who just moved back or close to her hometown as the chief of a fire station. The story begins with a flashback from her childhood where she and her family go camping in a (national?) forest (I believe they mentioned sequoia trees a lot), where she and her brother sneak out after bed to explore. They climb (and her brother falls from) a tall tree right when a forest fire breaks out.
I believe the parents die in the fire, but the little brother is only hurt from the fall. While the sister runs to get help, the forest (literally the trees, roots, etc) saves the little brother and he is taken underground to be healed and raised by the βMother Treeβ figure in the story. Some of what I read was in the βMother Treeβsβ perspective as well.
There was also a quiet guardian figure in the story (an uncle or close family friend) but I havenβt yet learned what his significance to the story will be. I believe her goal is to find her connection to the magic of this forest and save it, and her brother.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA π
