I enjoyed Harry Potter, The Magicians, and Name of the Wind.
I’m just finishing The Magicians and I enjoyed magic school with more adult themes. I also enjoyed the emphasis of the personal journey over just trying to fight a big bad (though I did enjoy the big bad too).
I loved the magic systems, setting, and school in Name of the Wind, but I didn’t like the protagonist much.
Harry Potter’s world felt immersive, which I enjoyed. I also enjoyed his friendships.
What to read next? Thanks!

Mage Errant by John Bierce just finished and it is excellent. Seven books
The Scholomance books by Naomi Novak is a trilogy.
For something a little bit different, A Thousand Li involves a cultivation sect, which is similar to a school. A bit more slice-of-life is Forge of Destiny, another cultivation story.
The Magicians Series by Lev Grossman
You could always go with the book that J.K. Rowling stole most of her ideas from – *A Wizard of Earthsea* by Ursula Le Guin
Haven’t personally read it, but a lot of people seem to like the school/academy setting of *The Will of the Many* by James Islington.
Up next: The Magicians… On SciFi/Netflix 😇
Think of it as a different timeline
Then: the scholomance
Then: the ninth house
You can try next:
– the atlas six
– the night angel
– a slow regard… (Kingkiller spin off book)
Gail Carriger’s steampunk Finishing School series might fit the bill. It’s not magic school but there are paranormal elements.
