Hey, are there any fellow throne of glass fans here? (Book from Sarah J. Maas)

    SPOILER ALERT

SPOILER AHEAD read at your own risk

I read the first book and loved it, I thought the ending was clever but I just now started reading Hamlet (or well, a summary) and I can’t help but notice how similar the ending is compared to Throne of glass. A sword fight, poisoned wine, killing the deceiver… Do you guys think it would be considered plagiarism, a mere coincidence or simply a sign that Sarah J. Maas might have read Hamlet and used it as an inspiration?

I know the rest of the story is completely different but I can’t help but wonder..

    1. It wouldn’t surprise me if she just rips ideas from wherever and jams them into her books with the occasional awkward sex scene forced in for the weirdos.

The similarities you listed (the existence of poisoned wine, a duel taking place, and the deceiver dying) are the only real similarities though. The scenario plays out almost entirely differently in the end of Throne of Glass. There’s no way it’s plagiarism, it most likely a coincidence but I would say the chance that SJM has read Hamlet is pretty high.
