Things like Zoe Gilbert’s Folk and Mischief Acts, or Thirteen Storeys by Jonathan Sims, with the book being a collection of short stories connected by a place or recurring characters so that it has an overarching story made up of somewhat self contained short stories.

I’m open to any genres because I’m interested by the format, but I typically don’t like Romance or Young Adult books (although some romance or young adult characters included isn’t a problem).

    Thank you for any suggestions.

“Anne of Windy Poplars” by LM Montgomery is much like this if you’re okay with non-contemporary. It’s book 4 in the series but can easily be read as a standalone.

They’re actually accounts of Anne’s experiences from week to week or day to day that are much like short stories in and of themselves in the way they’re put together within the book’s longer minor plot(s)

I think Charles de Lint’s urban fantasy books are like that. He’s written novels and short stories, but a lot of them all revolve in and around the fictional city of Newford, with a lot of the same people popping up in and out.
