Dark Matter: I hated every single thing about the protagonist, the early on plot twist was obvious, and nothing the characters did made logical sense. They had one character I liked and figuratively put her on a bus when she became inconvenient, and she was never seen again.
To Kill a Mockingbird. I know I know. To me the important element of the story is back burnered because you’re seeing it through the eyes of the child of the attorney covering it. I acknowledge this is a powerful narrative choice to some people. To me, I wanted to shove the annoying brat out of the way and hear it from Atticus’ perspective or from the accused.

I see American Psycho recommend a lot, and I found it really poorly-written. It reminded me of something an edge lord would hand in as his 10th grade English comp final.

Yellowface. It was not highly recommended, but it was definitely suggested quite often.

The House in the Cerulean Sea. It’s okay, but it felt very juvenile. It started out great, very cute, in fact, but I feel like it was too predictable overall.

The Road. I don’t know I’d go so far to say I didn’t enjoy it at all, but I didn’t get why it’s an all-time favorite for so many folks.

Stoner. I like media that sort of shows you a little bit of someone’s life where nothing particular happens, but I couldn’t finish this one because, well, nothing happened. The protagonist wasn’t particularly interesting, and while I know this can be captivating if done well, it wasn’t it for me.
I wonder if I’m missing something because I see it being highly praised here all the time.

I’m reading “The Secret History” and I find it banal, with a boring prose and uninteresting characters. It’s basically a YA novel, and I hate YA novels.
Connivence store Woman and Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow. Could not invest in the characters.

Prianesi. It’s extremely rare that I won’t complete a book or give it a really good chance. I read about 40 pages and just could not continue. I was bored out of my mind and did not anticipate it getting any better. It just was not for me.

‘Brilliant Sally Diamond’. It’s often listed next to ‘Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine’ and it is NOT the same sort of thing at all, it was really upsetting.
‘Song of Achilles’, I found it deadly dull.
‘The keeper of lost things’, overly saccharine and has an unexpected supernatural subplot, wtf did that come from.

The Dark Tower series (Stephen King). I really WANTED to enjoy it, I tried, twice, but just didn’t do it for me. I love several other books of his but this one just didn’t hit center.

Starship Troopers. It’s an answer anytime someone is looking for a military sci-fi. It starts okay, and picks up at the end, but the middle 3/5 is such a slog

One Hundred Years of Solitude. In fairness, did the audiobook and I’m realizing others heavily utilize the family tree illustration in the hard copy version. I didn’t realize I needed the instruction manual when I started.

In both cases, I found the negativity of the main characters off-putting. It’s a plot point for both but I couldn’t finish.
