I live in Russia but I really want a boyfriend so that I have someone who understands and supports me. I think about this too much and tried many things over 7 years to find one. It causes me pain to think that I am alone in this world. What should I read to gain some sort of independence, be happy even without friends or a boyfriend?

If you’re looking for a book to help you find independence and happiness even without friends or a boyfriend, I highly recommend *Lonely Castle in the Mirror* by Mizuki Tsujimura. This beautifully written novel tells the story of a young girl named Kokoro who struggles with loneliness and isolation. She discovers a magical castle where she meets other people who share similar feelings.

Through their journey together, they learn about friendship, self-acceptance, and finding strength within themselves. The story is deeply touching and offers valuable insights into overcoming loneliness and finding happiness from within. It’s a great read that can inspire you to embrace your own journey of self-discovery and independence.

If you wanted a feel-good book that included friendship I’d suggested A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers about a tea monk who befriends a robot.

But since you want to focus on just yourself, maybe you can look for books about self care and gratitude, or about finding little joys where you can?

      Something like:

      Wintering by Katherine May

The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking

The Book of Delights by Ross Gay

      Gratitude by Oliver Sacks

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

      Real Self-Care by Pooja Lakshmin

365 Thank Yous by John Kraklik

Bite by Bite by Aimee Nezhukumatathil

I hope you can find some comfort.

    3. Earthly Powers by Anthony Burgess. You may need a dictionary (I did) but it is quite a journey.
