When I visited a bookstore either in Europe or any other Western country, I've noticed that their books are larger than the standard sizing in Japan (due to them being smaller) since Japanese books sometimes split books into two parts if it is too large to congest into one novel (indicated by 上 or 下 on the spines), for the sake of portability. Harry potter: regardless of the language it's written in had to be divided into 7-8 volumes as it is too big to consolidate all 8 books as one huge manuscript.

To put into perspective Proust's: "In search of lost time" (À la recherche du temps perdu) had to be divided into 7 separate books as it is way too long to consolidate as one novel or tome, so book splitting does exist in the Western world, the differences between Japanese & English books are clear as night and day due not only due to their sizing, but Japan does it with 上 & 下 on the spine, so I guess the closest equivalent in English would be something like: I & II, 1 & 2, etc.

It's like if you got Jewell's: None of this is True dividing them as: None of this is True: I (190 p) & None of this is True: II (190 p) while they are still portable as they're B6 JIS instead of being this one book that is heavier as it is 380 pages in total. I even own the Japanese translation of Armored (Greaney) which is divided into 2 halves while the source material is a bigger novel, but the downside of a larger novel despite the argument of "bigger books means better" is that it is heavier to carry around.

Again, it's a matter of preference if a reader prefers kindle over physical books but that does not mean they will just think that as if kindle has been around for thousands of years when that is false, since physical books are way older than kindles. Why are Western books fixated on publishing books larger (6 x 9 in) instead of utilizing B6 as standard sizing, making them ACTUALLY easier to hold due to their size? The Games of Thrones books (like a single volume) can even be split into smaller novels.

    So something like:

SPLIT INTO TWO PARTS EACH published in B6 (English) while they are portable, rather than those thick books they are typically published in.

    • Game of Thrones I (347p)
    • Game of Thrones II (347p)
    • A Clash of Kings I (384p)
    • A Clash of Kings II (384p)
    • A Storm of Swords I (486p)
    • A Storm of Swords II (487p)
    • A Feast of Crows I (376p)
    • A Feast of Crows II (377p)
    • A Dance with Dragons I (528p)
    • A Dance with Dragons II (528p)
