Book recommendation please

1. i would like a book recommendation about life in new york not just a book that is set in new york, but about or a simple life in new york type of book. For instance, I recently ordered "Lunch Poems" by Frank O'hara as it seems to be bunch of interaction in poem form, set in newyork cafes, etc. The more popular the better as its hard to order less popular books where Im at.

2. Similar things but set in hawaii, maybe even focused on surfing.

Nothing to heavy or historical please.
