I’m not exactly old, but I am out of school and tend to be out of touch when it comes to the people around me. I’m supposed to help teach some high schoolers and am now stuck with an interesting issue. When I went to school it was cool to be smart and a bookworm. It was unacceptable to get bad grades (not just because of our parents… I think we all generally wanted to do well and grades were a great way to see how smart someone was). But years have passed and that same school has an issue with reading. I know it’s not exactly an uncommon problem that teachers face, but I would like them to fall in love with stories. I don’t really care what books they read, as long as the stories are good quality (not just full of cliffhangers and other unnecessary plot points that don’t teach people how to appreciate a clever writer). I’m on the fence about a few things to introduce them to. I think good stories come in all shapes (whether that’s anime, shows, video games, books, etc.), but where would I start with people nowadays?

I think I just want some ideas. A place to start. I’ll know more once I meet the kids, but I would like to come prepared. My goal is to get them hooked on good stories. Are there any new stories they could try?
