I have a young coworker who isn't a reader, but recently read and loved Sharp Objects. She asked me for rec, but this isn't my genre. I asked what she liked about the book, and for her it was 'the mystery leading up to the shocking ending'.
As a non-reader of this genre, I recommended what I have read: The Housemaid by McFadden. I hated it personally, but I'm in the minority there and folks seemed to love the mystery and end. She didn't like that it was focused/relied on a wealthy family.
I really want to find something that she'll love so she will be more inclined to keep reading. I didn't suggest Gone Girl because, from my experience, the same author and genre doesn't mean the same feeling and outcome.
So, does anyone have any recs given the minimal perimeters she provided?
