I’m currently reading Bad Summer People and everything about it is awful. The characters are all unlikeable, the book is unrelateable, and the writing is awful. However, I’m actually really enjoying it 😂 what books have you read that were so bad they were good?

Colleen Hoover Verity and It Ends With Us. I disliked both but they were so easy to read and cheesey enough I wanted to know how they ended. Reminded me of watching a bad hallmark movie.

For me this was Born of Flame & Fury by Hannah Danielle. This book was such a rollercoaster for me. The main character had no personality and no agency the whole book. There’s an (IMO, poorly executed) amnesia trope. And starting around the halfway mark, it becomes horrendously, criminally overwritten. Like every single sentence is packed with *so many words and extreme dramatic feelings, similes, metaphors*, that soon everything was repetitive and nothing held any meaning.

The first third of it I was a bit bored, but interested. By the middle, I was like, you know what, I’ve been coming at this the wrong way. This is actually so profoundly, *deeply* bad, it is art. A stupendous, impressive level of trainwreck. I was hooked. Couldn’t look away. I needed it in my veins.

Then a really weirdly-executed steamy scene gave me the ick that I couldn’t come back from.

The last third I was over it, so I skimmed. I wanted to find out what happened but there were just so… many… words… very few of which actually added any value. It ended on a cliffhanger. I won’t be picking up the second book.
