This might sound a tad generic so I’ll do my best to narrow it down a bit.
Lately I’ve been reading horror and sci-fi. And while I’ve loved it, I just watched the original Hercules cartoon and I really felt something shift when I watched a specific scene.
That scene is near the end, when Hercules is nearly beaten to death, and he’s been stripped of everything except his flesh and will, it was such a good scene and it’s had me wondering if there are any sub genres that play with the idea.
In essence, I’m looking for a story where the main character starts as a hero, and than is stripped of everything, and has to build themselves to that moment where they prove that they can do something deserving of a Hero’s power and will.
It can be any genre, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, history, literature. I’m open to everything.
