I got massively burnt out after my MFA in creative writing, mostly writing about Vietnam, the war, and the indigenous peoples. I've read Tim O'Brien, Karl Marlantes, Robert Olen Butler, Viet Thanh Nguyen…and even ethnologies from people like Dr. Hickey etc.

I'm working on a novel about my dad's life as an indigenous person during the Vietnam war currently, but working for publishing companies for years dulled my reading brain.

Anyone have any recommendations for historical fiction and/or genre fiction? I mention genre fiction because I see historical fiction as world building as well.

My favorite works are The Things They Carried, Matterhorn, A Good Scent From a Strange Mountain, The Orphan Master's Son…and on the fantasy side, U love the original Drizzt trilogy from RA Salvatore.
