    Hi everyone!

I'm on the hunt for a new romance book to enjoy. I can't get myself to read contemporary romances, and my favorite romance books are always ones where the story features a romance against a backdrop of political turmoil, with a cast of predominantly POC characters. Here are a few of my favorites:

    1. As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh
    2. The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak
    3. The Stationery Shop by Marjan Kamali

It would also be great if the female main character is considered "undesirable" by prevailing beauty standards, but this isn't a necessity. Bonus points if it's also a tearjerker (all the books above have made me cry).

Do you have any recommendations that fit this niche? Thanks in advance!
