I honestly found the series to be pretty good. I know most of the reviews are mediocre but as a native Mayan myself I found it to be very interesting and a fun read even if it’s supposed to be for a youth audience. It was interesting enough for me to read through the entire series. There are a few things that were SUS in the books like the fact that the main character Max was crushing on a girl for the majority of the series who turned out to be his Half Cousin despite the fact that the books always seemed to be setting them up for a romantic relationship especially since they have ancestors who look exactly like them who were married, making us think that they might also follow the same path. Granted I don’t blame Max since he was unaware that she’s his half cousin until the third book. And she’s also a different skin color so there’s really no reason to suspect they would be relatives. Ngl before it was revealed they were cousins I was 100% on board with them being a thing since they actually did learn quite a bit from each other and showed a growing care for one another.
Overall good series it was just that one thing that kind threw me off. It was a good plot twist I’ll admit. Really throws you for a fast ball there.
