The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir — A sci-fi fantasy series about lesbian space necromancers. Absolutely bizarre and extremely well written. A perfect hybrid of genre and literary fiction.
Everyone in this Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily R Austin — Technically a mystery, kind of a dark comedy, but mostly a story about a young lesbian woman with crippling anxiety. One of the best books I’ve ever read, LGBTQ or not.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo — This is a young adult novel because it’s about a teenager, but it’s also a fascinating depiction of butch/femme culture in 1950s San Francisco and the experience of Chinese Americans during the Red Scare.
