I'm looking for books about toxic relationships that are in the contemporary/literary fiction genre, as opposed to the romance genre. Whenever I try to search for this, I get suggestions like 'It Ends With Us' by Colleen Hoover, which is (no offense, but) absolutely not what I'm looking for haha. I'm more after books where you're not rooting for the couple to actually be together but it's just very interesting to follow the dysfunction of their relationship. A few examples that I've loved:
- Cleopatra and Frankenstein – Coco Mellors
- Annie Bot – Sierra Greer
- Acts of Desperation – Megan Nolan
And a few books that I didn't personally love but are very much the style of what I'm looking for:
- Normal People – Sally Rooney
- Tell Me Lies – Carola Lovering (much prefer the TV series, it's so good!)
- My Husband – Maud Ventura
Happy to answer any questions to clarify what I'm looking for. Thank you in advance!
