I want a reading experience where I get root for different characters/factions in different scenarios, sometimes rooting against someone I previously rooted for or vice versa.
TBH, I didn't really have that experience with either GOT or HOTD. My loyalties almost never wavered.
If these give any insight into what might be a better recommendation for me.

GOT: probably Stannis (killing your own child who dearly loves you, bigger crime than anything the Night King was prophesied to do), Robert, Joffery, Ramsay

HOTD: Viserys, Rhaenys
Better if the recommended book has romance subplots. But, not entirely necessary. Preferably standalone, but wouldn't mind a series too, if reading each book is a satisfactory experience in itself.
