So, I'm trying to get back into reading. I'm currently in one of two camps in terms of what I'm trying to find. One is finding a dragon focused book where they play a prominent role, either as the main protagonists or a dragon rider focused story. Books I've read of this type many moons ago were Voices of Dragons and the first few books in the Wings of Fire series. Ideally these would be relatively newer books, not like Eragon or other 'older' books. I saw the Fourth Wing at a bookstore the other day which sounded intriguing, but I wanted to see what other people online might suggest.
The other camp is finding a book that is in some ways similar to the book series Penryn and the End of Days. I don't need it to be specifically a post-apocalypse setting, but having some sort of fantastical elements would be nice. I think the thing I like most with this book is the dynamic between the two main characters, and overall the protagonist being pretty levelheaded and enjoyable as a lead. If there's other books that kind of feel similar in this regard, I'd love to hear about it, as this is one of my favorite book series from back in high school.
