I am looking for literary fictions books, ideally contemporary-ish but can also be classics, that do not have the heavy “everything is horrible and everyone is dying” angle to them.

Recently read The Women, A little life, the Great Alone, Black Butterflies, Betty etc and whilst I loooved some of these and thought they were beautifully written, I am feeling drained from the overly sad narratives. I don’t mind heavy topics or saddens as of course that’s part of leave, but with some of these it feels like sadness porn. I am in the mood for somewhat less depressing books that still give you great insight into another person’s mind, allow you to empathize, teach you something new etc.

    Any suggestions would be great!
