I’m looking for a dual timeline book where we learn about an unsolved murder in the past, and something (like a class reunion, wedding, funeral, etc) brings the same group of people together again. The modern day timeline is full of suspense as they try to solve the murder from years ago while facing danger from the yet unknown murderer.

The more twisty-turns in the mystery-thriller, the better.

I’m thinking of books like Ruth Ware’s The It Girl.

    Thanks!!

    1. I meeean, Stephen King’s IT technically fulfills this.

Also, Dark Places by Gillian Flynn may sort of be what you’re looking for.

The Thousand Yard Stare by Rob Kantner fits this well.

A private investigator is hired by his high school ex-girlfriend to track down classmates for a 25-year high school reunion. The ex also reveals another agenda: she wants him to investigate the death of a classmate, which had been ruled a suicide years ago but she believed was murder.

The book intercuts the present-day story with flashbacks to when he and the suspects were still teens.

Ben Perkins is my favorite private eye character and this is one book of a series. There’s a funny running joke whenever Ben finds someone and tells them his name. I won’t spoil what it is but it’s a nice touch of the odd things that stick in people’s memories.

      Hope this helps.
