I've been reading Dan Jones' The Plantagenets and really enjoying its way of storytelling. To me, it reads like a novel with all the political intrigue and drama, and I love it! I was wondering if there was a similar book about (not necessarily all of) the Roman or Byzantine rulers? I want that kind of narrative of each ruler's reign told in a gripping style, with plenty of drama, that's more readable than just your average dry history book. I really enjoy learning about rulers and how they held power and the challenges they faced during their reigns, so anything like this would be great.
