Hey…I'm from Switzerland and just realised that I don't read many swiss books. Probably a few in school but not more. Does anyone have some good recommendations that take place in switzerland or are written by swiss authors? I'm open for anything but especially queer literature as I haven't really come across queer swiss fiction.

Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann is largely set in a sanatorium there. He was inspired by taking his wife there for some period, sought refuge there after leaving Nazi Germany, though he left for America for many decades. He then did return and end his life living in Switzerland. Mann was queer, but most of that is sublimated in his work, except for A Death in Venice. Queer author Colm Toibin did a novelist biography of Mann where he reclaimed his queerness.

Very Queer author Patricia Highsmith spent the last decades of her life in Switzerland and her literary foundation is there. I’ve only just started reading her works, I don’t know if Switzerland figures in any of them.

William Tell is the one folk talk I think about being from Switzerland.
